Hi!
My name is Daniël and I organize and facilitate movement classes and ecstatic dances. Throughout my journey, I have found that our body holds the capacity to feel and express what our mind and our language often cannot reach. My ambition has become to share with others my experiences of moving through various rhythms and melodies with different intentions, exercises, and interactions.
His Story
With music as its continuous theme, my personal journey has unfolded through various practices of self embodiment, expression and psychosomatic exercise. Music has guided me out of a depression at the age of 12, and gradually more and more into my body. The various chapters of this journey - capoeira, yoga, martial arts, and dance - are what I aim integrate in my practice. I have found that my academic background in philosophy enables me greatly to place these experiences into perspective, and to translate them into a framework in which personal development and philosophy meet.
Having experienced how one's biggest weaknesses can become one's greatest power, I aspire to share what I have learned and experienced through exercises and in my dj'ing for ecstatic dances. I believe that different qualities of movement can become one of the strongest catalysts for the connection with, and expression of the various dimensions of the Self; one's emotions, ideas, relations, and narratives. But also, movement can serve as a means to access the parts of the Self one might rather not see, creating an invitation to register and integrate also the ugly parts of life. The beauty of it is that everything is allowed to be felt and to be expressed.
I believe that the power of music is to facilitate this venture, and with those tools at hand I work on creating a safe space for exploration, playfulness, inner work, and expression. It is often the mind that takes us away from this potential and brings us into narratives of succes or victimhood, of self-rejection, guilt or shame, and of the persona we have come to identify with. To embody oneself is to be as you are, and to swim with that beautiful current rather than against it.
